BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Head of the Southern Clans Council threatened on Friday to boycott Iraq’s forthcoming parliamentary election in protest against recent decisions made by Accountability and Justice (Debaathification) Committee.
“This decision is to support the Al-Iraqiya Alliance against any suspicious measures of the committee,” Sheikh Kadhom al-Tai’e told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He wondered why the Iraqi government did not cancel this committee.
“Boycotting election is the only measure we have to face terror that targets the whole political process in Iraq,” Sheikh al-Tai’e said.
He called on the UN to give no legitimacy to the upcoming parliamentary election in Iraq.
Recently, the Accountability and Justice Committee decided to ban a number of Iraqi politicians from joining the election racing, accusing them of affiliations with the dissolved Baath Party of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
