WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Four persons were arrested in western al-Kut city on Friday on charges of having planted an improvised explosive device (IED), a police source in Wassit province said.
“Policemen arrested on Friday (Nov. 6) four persons in al-Ahrar district, (25 km) western Kut, on charges of having emplaced an IED that targeted Iraqi and U.S. forces,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The four suspects were arrested in a search raid conducted by police forces in the area in accordance with intelligence tip-offs,” he added.
The Wassit’s bomb squad department personnel earlier on Friday defused an IED planted by unidentified persons at the entrance of al-Ahrar district.
Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
