Sistani denies boycotting elections in case adopting close-list system

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The office of top Shiite cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani denied calls to boycott next parliamentary elections in case open-list system is not approved, according too al-Iraqia satellite channel.
“Al-Sistani’s office denied in a phone call with the channel that the cleric said that to mass media,” al-Iraqia said.
Al-Sistani had called earlier for adopting the open-list system during the coming parliamentary elections as it allows voters to select candidates freely.
