WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Quick Response Department forces in Wassit seized a rocket and Iranian-made improvised explosive devices aboard a truck in the northeastern part of the province on Thursday, according to the QRD commander.

“The interior ministry’s QRD personnel seized a Kia truck carrying 75 IEDs made in Iran in 2007 and a Strela rocket at the area lying between Wassit and Diala, (160 km) in northeastern Wassit,” Maj. Aziz al-Amir told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The operation relied on intelligence tip-offs that a vehicle carrying Iranian-made IEDs and Strela rockets was heading near a stone plant for use by members of Al-Qaeda in Iraq network,” Amir added.

He said his forces seized the vehicle and carried the arms to the QRD headquarters in al-Kut for dismantling by the bomb squad personnel.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
