Maliki to compete in elections under Dawlat al-Qanoon

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki revealed on Thursday his participation in the parliamentary elections with an independent list.
“Announcing the Dawlat al-Qanoon Coalition will be done within a week,” al-Maliki, who leads Daawa party, said in statements to the National Media Center.
The premier said that he will form a large bloc before the elections to protect the political process and to activate the executive and legislative role.
He asserted that announcing a new list does not mean ending hopes for holding alliances with other coalitions.
The parliamentary elections will be held next January 16.
