U.N. envoy, al-Maliki’s advisors discuss boosting economic reform

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Ad Melkert, the U.N. special envoy for Iraq, discussed with the advisors of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ways to support the Iraqi government’s efforts in the economic reform, reconstruction, investment and high education fields.
“The meeting, which was held on Tuesday (Sept.1), tackled also the assistance in guaranteeing water resources and developing agriculture and removing landmines from the agricultural lands,” said a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Melkert reviewed during the meeting the possible mechanisms of the strategic support provided by the U.N. to Iraq,” it added.
He expressed the U.S. agencies’ readiness to foster cooperation with the country for the development of the Iraqi institutions and for the achievement of the economic and social development.
