U.S. army hands over 107 detainees to Iraqi government

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A total of 107 detainees were handed over by the U.S. army to the Iraqi government, the media advisor of the U.S. army said on Monday.

“The U.S. forces handed over 107 detainees along with their investigation files to the Iraqi government on Monday (Aug. 31),”Karim al-Sayab told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A total of 1179 detainees have been handed over to the Iraqi government since last January until august as they are wanted,” he added.

“The U.S. army will close the Bucca detention center in the coming few days as the number of the detainees decreased to less than 9,000, the lowest since March 2005 in the U.S. detention centers,” he explained.
