2 policemen killed in attack in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Two policemen were killed in an attack by gunmen on a checkpoint southeast of Mosul city on Friday, a security source in Ninewa province said.

“Gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint in the district of al-Nimrod district, southeast of Mosul, leaving two policemen killed,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The two policemen’s bodies were removed to a morgue in the city,” the source added, not giving further details on the incident.

Earlier on Friday, a policeman on a leave was shot down by gunmen in the pedestrians-crammed area of Bab al-Toub, central Mosul.

The volatile city of Mosul, capital of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
