BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Recent casualties of Friday’s earlier five blasts outside Shiite mosques in Baghdad rose to 29 deaths and 61 wounded, a security source said.

“The new count of casualties of al-Shroufi Mosque in al-Shaab area, northern Baghdad, reached 20 deaths and 40 others wounded, while that of al-Rasoul al-Aadham Mosque in Djisr (bridge) Diala, southern Baghdad, rose to four deaths and eight wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Casualties of al-Sadrayn Mosque in Zaafaraniya, southern Baghdad, remained one death and six wounded, while those from the blast near al-Hakeem Mosque in al-Kamaliya, southeastern Baghdad, rose to two deaths and three wounded,” he added.

“The fifth in the chain of bombing attacks has occurred outside al-Imam al-Sadeq Mosque in al-Sayediya, southwestern Baghdad, leaving two people killed and four others wounded,” the source said.

Earlier on Friday, Iraqi police sources told Aswat al-Iraq that dozens of people were killed or wounded on Friday (July 31) in a chain of bombing attacks with IEDs and vehicles rigged with explosives near Shiite mosques.

The sources said the number of casualties are most likely to rise as they occurred in a time when mosques are crowded with worshippers performing the Friday congregational prayers.
