NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi forces detained a Moroccan gunman while he was planting an improvised explosive device (IED) north of Mosul on Thursday, an Iraqi army source said.
“A force from the army 3rd Quick Intervention Brigade detained a gunman from Morocco while he was planting an explosive charge in the area of al-Qusiyat on the Mosul-Talkeef highway, north of the city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Mohammed Allal Karoum Al Farha, who was arrested in an ambush set by the raiding force, was not carrying a passport but investigations revealed that he was born in 1986 and comes from the northern Morocco city of Meknes,” he said.
“The man is now remanded under investigative custody,” the source added, not giving further details.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
