July 14 declared official holiday

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Secretariat General of the Iraqi cabinet on Monday declared July 14 as an official holiday, marking the anniversary of the July 14, 1958 Revolution.
“Tomorrow will be an official holiday for all state departments and institutions,” according to a cabinet statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The Iraqi coup d’état of 1958- alternatively known as the 14 th July Revolution, 14 Tammuz Revolution and the Massacre of al-Zuhoor Palace- was a military coup responsible for the overthrow of the Iraqi Hashemite monarchy under Faisal II and the regime of Prime Minister Nuri al-Said. The coup ended the Iraqi Hashemite dynasty and usher in the era of the Iraqi Republic, as well as precipitated social and economic reform in the state of Iraq.
