NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: U.S. forces have violated the security agreement signed with Iraq by entering two police departments in Mosul city, according to a local police source.
“This morning, a U.S. patrol headed to the Umm al-Arbaeen police department, western Mosul, while another headed to the Nasr police department, eastern Mosul, violating the security agreement signed with Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
On November 27, 2008, the Iraqi Parliament passed a security pact with the United States, known as the Status-of-Forces Agreement (SOFA), 10 days after the Iraqi cabinet approved it with an overwhelming majority.
In accordance with the agreement, U.S. combat forces left Iraqi cities and districts on June 30, 2009 within preparations for withdrawal from Iraq by August 2010, to be completed by the end of 2011 commensurate with U.S. President Barack Obama’s plan.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
