NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Casualties from Saturday’s earlier car bomb blast in Mosul rose to five deaths, including four children, and 52 wounded, all of them civilians, according to a security source in the city.

“Four children were among the deaths, while a number of women and children, including a one-year-old baby, were among the wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Earlier, a security source said four civilians were killed and 35 others wounded when a car bomb ripped through a residential section in eastern Mosul.

“A car rigged with explosives and parked in a neighborhood in Kokgli area, eastern Mosul, blew up on Saturday (July 11), leaving four civilians killed and more than 35 others, including women and children, wounded,” the source had told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The number of casualties is likely to go up due to the powerful blast that took place in a densely-populated residential area,” the source said.

“The explosion also destroyed five inhabited houses,” he added, not giving further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
