DIWANIYA / Aswat al-Iraq: The Iraqi Interior Ministry formed a committee to investigate petitions filed against some security services in Diwaniya alleging that they committed human rights violations in the province’s prisons, the director of the Ministry’s operations room said on Saturday.

“We are in Diwaniya to investigate these petitions,” General Abdilkareem Khalaf told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The Ministry assigned General Ahmed Abu-Rgheef, the director general of its internal affairs and security directorate, to head the committee,” he said.

For his part, General Abu-Rgheef said “there are violations in some Iraqi prisons.”

“We are now investigating this issue, and all those involved will be admitted to the judiciary,” he explained.

He did not mention further details.

Diwaniya city lies 180 km south of Baghdad.
