Iraqi forces start military operations in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: The second Operation Bashaer al-Kheir (Promise of Good) started on Friday in Diala with the participation of more than 21,000 policemen targeting outlaws and al-Qaeda elements, the commander of the Diala police said.

“The operations started on Friday morning (May 1) in Diala with the participation of 21,000 policemen as well as a force from the 5th division of the Iraq army,” General Abdulhussein al-Shemri told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The operation will target outlaws and al-Qaeda throughout Diala,” he added.

The first Bashaer al-Kheir (Promise of Good) operations started in July 2008.
