Gunman wounded in explosion in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: One gunman was wounded while he was attempting to plant a grenade to target a Sahwa (Awakening) checkpoint, to the southwest of Kirkuk, said a source from the province’s police.

“The incident took place in al-Riyadh district, 45 km southwest of Kirkuk,” Brigadier Serhad Qadir told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded gunman was immediately arrested by Sahwa fighters,” he said.

“The gunman was admitted to hospital, and interrogations are currently underway,” he added.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km north of Baghdad.
