Unknown body found west of Makhmour

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Policemen found an unidentified body west of the district of Makhmour on Sunday, a security source said.

“The body, apparently of a 30-year-old man, was found on the main road linking the district of al-Kuweir to Makhmour,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The body, which showed signs of having been shot, was removed to a morgue,” he added.

Makhmour lies 68 km west of the Kurdish city of Arbil.

Belonging administratively to the province of Ninewa, Makhmour is one of the disputed areas between the central Iraqi government and the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Arbil, the capital city of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, lies 362 km northeast of Baghdad.
