‘Special Groups’ leader nabbed in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: A “Special Groups” leader on Saturday was arrested during a raid in northern Wassit province, according to a local commander.

“The leader, who is believed to have been involved in armed operations against civilians and Iraqi security forces, was captured during a raid on a house in al-Aziziya district (90 km north of Kut),” the commander of the Quick Response Department (QRD) in Wassit, Maj. Aziz Lateef, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The arrest was made in accordance with Article IV of the Terrorism Law and in light of intelligence tips,” Lateef added.
‘Special Groups’ is the name given to elements that have links with Iran.
Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
