KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: Four technicians of the Iraqi electricity ministry were wounded when an explosive charge went off while they were on duty in southwestern Kirkuk province, the ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
“The roadside bomb targeted a pickup vehicle that was carrying the four technicians,” Aziz al-Shimari told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The incident took place at al-Rashad district, 35 km southwest of Kirkuk city,” he said.
“Two of the injured men are in critical condition,” he added.
Shimari accused “terrorist elements” that he did not name of attempting to throw a spanner in the ministry’s efforts to improve power supply.
Earlier, the local police chief in Kirkuk said that three electricity workers were wounded in a bomb blast in the southwestern part of the province.
Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
