45 cannon shells seized, 3 wanted persons arrested in Missan

MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq: Policemen in Missan seized on Saturday 45 cannon shells and arrested three wanted persons in an operation in the southern part of the province, a police official said.

“Personnel from al-Balda police seized on Saturday 45 cannon shells of 155 mm. caliber in al-Hizam al-Amni (Security Belt) area in central al-Amara city,” Col. Sadeq Sallam, the Missan Police Department’s information & relations director, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“In another operation, personnel from the 3rd and 6th Emergency Contingents arrested three men wanted on criminal charges,” said Sallam, adding two of them were captured in al-Majar al-Kabir district, 40 km south of Amara, while the third was arrested in al-Bu Zayd village, 45 km south of Amara.

“The arrests were conducted upon intelligence tip-offs,” said Sallam, not giving further details.

Amara, the capital city of Missan, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.
