“Special group” leader arrested in Kut

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: A “special group” leader believed to be involved in the killing of 20 persons was arrested in Kut city, a senior police official said on Wednesday.

“Ali Hussein, a leader of a special group who is involved in the killing of 20 civilians and military personnel, was captured today,” a Quick Response Department (QRD) commander, Maj. Aziz Latif, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The arrest was made during a raid on a house in al-Jihad neighborhood, western Kut,” the official added.
‘Special Groups’ is the name given to elements that have links with Iran.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
