Police foil bombing in Karbala

KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Karbala police on Sunday defused an improvised explosive device (IED) stuck to a vehicle carrying five engineers in the province.

“On Sunday, security forces saved the lives of five engineers from Ninewa province during a visit to Karbala city after they had discovered a bomb under their vehicle,” Staff Maj. Gen. Ali Jassem Mohammed told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The holy city of Karbala lies 110 km southwest of the Iraqi capital; while Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
