2 wanted men arrested, arms seized in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Quick Response Department forces on Friday arrested two wanted men with arms and munitions in their possession in central al-Kut city, according to the QRD commander.

“The interior ministry’s QRD arrested the two wanted persons in a raid on a house in al-Shohadaa neighborhood, central Kut, and seized weapons and ammunition in their possession,” Maj. Aziz Latif told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The seized arms and ammunition included 2,000 Kalashnikov bullets, magazines of light arms and guns of different sizes and improvised explosive devices in addition to photo and digital cameras,” said Latif.

He added that the arrested persons are suspected of involvement in armed operations targeting civilians.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
