4 al-Qaeda gunmen detained in northern Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: A force from the Quick Response Department (QRD) on Friday arrested four al-Qaeda gunmen in northern Wassit province, the commander of the QRD said.

“Acting on intelligence information, a force from the 2nd brigade of the Quick Response Department (QRD) on Friday (Mar. 13) arrested four al-Qaeda members during a crackdown operation in al-Suwaira district in north of Kut,” Major Aziz Latief told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The forces seized a large amount of weapons and ammunitions found in their possession,” he noted.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, is 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
