Arms cache seized in Wassit

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: A security force from the Wassit police department on Thursday seized an arms cache in a farmland in the northern part of the province, a security source said.

“A National Information & Investigation Department today (March 12) seized an arms cache in a plantation area in the district of al-Suwayra, (135 km) north of al-Kut,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The weapons seized were 50 km of C4, 50 rockets of different sizes, an antiaircraft thermal missile and a number of light machine-guns,” the source added.

He noted that the cache was seized thanks to intelligence tip-offs and local residents’ collaboration.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
