Ex-provincial council member arrested over forgery charges

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Security forces on Wednesday arrested a former provincial council member on charges of forging a graduation certificate during the recent local elections.

“Mohammed Khazaal Shambar was arrested for submitting a forged graduation certificate while running in the provincial elections held at the beginning of the current year,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The arrest was made in accordance with an arrest warrant issued by Wassit Criminal Court.
Shambar assumed the position of the council’s chairman for two terms and the council’s media committee head. He did not manage to obtain enough votes in the past elections, in which he ran as a Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) Coalition candidate.
