DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi army personnel on Saturday found three explosive belts in southwestern Diala province, according to an army source.
“During a raid on Abu Sayf village, Bani Saad district (23 km southwest of Baaquba), three explosive belts and a large number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found inside a major stronghold of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq’,” the commander of the 3 rd regiment, 5 th Division, Col. Ali Mahmoud Metaab, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The village, located on the old road linking Diala to the Iraqi capital Baghdad, was a place where killings and displacements were common before the launch of the security operation Bashaer al-Kheir (Promises of Good) in July 2008.
Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
