KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: A joint force of Iraqi and U.S. personnel on Tuesday found a stockpile of weapons in the Mumbar Garhat district in Kirkuk, according to a statement from the Multi-National Forces.

Early Tuesday morning, a joint 12th Iraqi Army Division and Coalition force patrol discovered a large weapons cache in the Mumbar Garhat district of Kirkuk province,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The weapons cache consisted of launchers, 120mm shells, 60mm mortars and firing systems, RPK rounds, improvised mortar tubes, blasting caps and several other supporting items.  The cache was safely disposed of by a joint US and Iraqi Army team,” it added.

No one was hurt, thankfully,” said Lt. Col. Khalil Kamal al-Zabai, the Public Affairs Officer for the 12th IA Division.  “This is an important discovery and will help us defeat the IED systems in place here.  This will go a long way in helping us identify other caches like this and clearing Kirkuk of terrorist remnants.”
