MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq: Policemen defused an improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted inside a crowded souk (market) in the city of al-Amara on Friday, a security source said.

“Personnel from the bomb squad managed on Friday to dismantle an IED planted inside the crowded al-Jumaa (Friday) outdoor souk in central Amara,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The souk, open only on Fridays, is some kind of a flea market where used commodities and products are being sold for low-income people.

Amara, the capital city of Missan province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.
