Senior leader of armed group arrested in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces in Diala arrested a leading member of the so-called Ansar al-Sunna Organization for suspected involvement in killing and displacing many citizens, the province’s police chief said on Friday.

“The arrest took place during a military operation at al-Gatoon neighborhood of Baaquba district,” General Abdelhussein al-Shimari told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“In addition to killing and displacing people for sectarian reasons, the arrested person is also involved in distributing provocative leaflets that contained threats to some families,” he said.

Baaqubaa, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
