MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq: The Missan police freed a man taken hostage in southern Missan province on Sunday, a security spokesman said.

“Forces from the Outside Roads Protection squad liberated a man taken hostage in the area of Abu Rouba, between the Qalaat Saleh and al-Ozayr districts, (55 km) south of al-Amara city,” Col. Sadiq Sallam, the Missan police command’s relations & information director, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The kidnapped man was freed thanks to intelligence tip-offs, but the kidnappers could not be arrested as the bumpy roads helped them escape,” Sallam added.

Amara, the capital city of Missan, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.
