Armed group’s key member captured in Talafar

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Policemen captured a leading member of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq group on Saturday, a security source in Talafar said.
“The armed group operative was arrested in al-Salam neighborhood, northern Talafar district, (60 km) west of Mosul city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The arrest was made based on confessions by some persons arrested earlier,” he added.
The Islamic State of Iraq, which was announced in October 2006, is a parent group composed of seven armed organizations, most prominent of them is al-Qaeda in Iraq.
The State, led by a man of the name Abu Omar al-Boghdadi, is active in central and western Iraq.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
