BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The number of Iraqi detainees in U.S.-run prisons has dropped to 14,900, due to the daily release of 50 prisoners, a U.S. adviser said on Saturday.

“This reduction is happening for the first time since Dec. 2006,” Kareem al-Sayiab told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The release comes following a security agreement with the Iraqi government in this regard,” he said.
He stressed that the process moves with an average of 50 detainees per day to preserve Iraq’s stability and security.
