NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces on Monday found an amount of explosives in the west of Mosul city, a security source said.

“A police force found an amount of explosives in Sinjar district, which were prepared for explosion during the upcoming provincial councils elections,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosives were inside a bag and buried underground,” he added, noting that the forces found the explosives after receiving intelligence information.

Sinjar, 120 km northwest of Mosul, is inhabited by Yazidis, a religious minority whose followers are generally situated in northern Iraq. Some 350,000 Yazidis live in villages around Mosul, 405 km north of Baghdad.
