35 officers arrested for belonging to banned party - MP

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A lawmaker of the parliament’s defense and security committee said on Thursday that 35 Iraqi officers were arrested for belonging to al-Awda (return) party, denying any coup attempts.
“Iraqi security forces on Thursday arrested 35 officers from the interior ministry after receiving intelligence reports that assert they are members of the return party,” Abbas al-Bayati told Aswat al-Iraq.
The return party is one of the banned movements as it is considered an extension tp the dissolved Baath party.
“There is no coup d’etat, because such coup could not happen in Iraq now,” he noted.
