BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi denounced the killing of a civilian resident from a village near Falluja, the largest city in the predominantly Sunni province of al-Anbar, by U.S. soldiers’ fire on Friday, according to a release by Hashemi’s office.
“Vice President Hashemi sent a cable of condolence to the chieftain of al-Bu Ulwan clan in which he vehemently condemned the incident,” read the release as received by Aswat al-Iraq.
Earlier on Saturday, hundreds of Falluja people staged a peaceful demonstration condemning the killing of a local resident by U.S. forces’ fire, demanding an investigation into the incident.
Some 900 locals of al-Nassaf village, Falluja city, took to the streets and gathered near Osama Ibn Zayd Mosque, chanting slogans against U.S. forces, which they blamed for the death of a local resident during the early hours of Friday.
A spokesman for the demonstrators said that the march denounced the killing of citizen Sajit al-Ulwani, who was killed in his bed by U.S. fire.
A security source in Falluja police told Aswat al-Iraq over the phone that an Iraqi civilian was killed and six others detained in a raid conducted by U.S. troops on Friday in an area inhabited by al-Bu Ulwan clans.
