Former head of Sadr’s office in Diwaniya arrested

DIWANIYA / Aswat al-Iraq: A joint Iraqi army-police force arrested in Najaf on Friday the former chief of Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr’s office in Diwaniya, the province’s police media director said.
“Hussein al-Taweel was arrested in a security operation in Najaf today based on an intelligence tips,” Brig. Abdelaziz al-Salhi told Aswat al-Iraq.
“The tips were offered by Ali al-Haddad, a wanted man on charges of murder and terrorism. Haddad was arrested on Thursday,” Salhi said.
He added that Taweel is suspected of having committed murders and assassinations and planted improvised explosive devices.
Diwaniya lies 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
