14 suspects captured in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Diala’s Emergency Police personnel on Friday captured 14 wanted men and suspects, including a leading member of al-Qaeda network, a security source in the province said.

“Emergency policemen in Diala, in association with the province’s Investigations Bureau, conducted a military operation that targeted al-Qaeda strongholds in the village of al-Hashimiyat, Baaquba district, capturing 14, including an amir (leader),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The amir is wanted on charges of murder and forced displacement (of civilians),” the source added.

Al-Hashimiyat lies on the highway linking Diala to the Iraqi capital.

Baaquba, the capital city of Diala, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
