5 killed, 12 wounded in Iraq violence in 24 hours

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Five people were killed and 12 others wounded in acts of violence that occurred in different areas of Iraq during the past 24 hours, according to security source.
In al-Anbar province, unidentified gunmen in a vehicle attacked a checkpoint of al-Karma district police, east of Falluja, near a cement factory on Friday,
killing a policeman and seriously wounding three others.
In Sala al-Din, the mayor of Touz Khormato district said an Emergency Police force in Tikrit conducted a raid targeting wanted men at a restaurant in the northern part of the district, in the eastern part of Tikrit.
“The security personnel clashed with the wanted men, three of whom were arrested,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq, adding three security men were wounded.
In Mosul, unidentified gunmen opened fire on Saturday at Issa Hammoud, a member of teh municipal council of al-Biaaj district, (126 km) west of Mosul, while he was driving his vehicle with his family on the main road linking Biaaj and Sinjar district, (120 km) west of Mosul. He and his wife were wounded in the attack and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In another incident, an Iraqi army force killed two gunmen during a late hour of Friday evening while attempting to attack an army checkpoint in Adan neighborhood, eastern Mosul.
In the district of Jalawlaa, Diala province, a policeman and a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party were killed and two policemen others wounded in armed clashes between the Emergency Police personnel and gunmen from the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barazani’s KDP.
