BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Army forces on Wednesday seized large quantities of ammunition and arms in raid operations in central and northern Basra, said a source from Basra Operations.

“Forces of the Iraqi army 52nd brigade today conducted a raid operation at al-Shekhata district, 20 km northern Basra, and seized around 550 different newly produced mortar shells, in addition to eight AK-47s, four different mortars, and two machine guns,” Colonel Abbass al-Temimi told Aswat al-Iraq.

“Our forces also conducted a raid in al-Sabkha neighborhood, central Basra, and seized 34 pieces of arms,” he said.

He referred that Najeebiya – Ashar Street has been opened for the public use, after it was blocked due to the presence of Basra Operations Room there.

The oil-rich city of Basra lies 590 km south of Baghdad.
