High ranking officer survives assassination in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A high ranking Iraqi Ministry of Interior’s (MOI) officer and his driver on Wednesday were wounded, along with two civilians, when the officer’s car was attacked by unknown gunmen, eastern Baghdad, said a source from the police.
“Unidentified armed men today opened fire targeting an MOI brigadier in Zayiona neighborhood, eastern Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq on condition of anonymity.
“The officer and his driver were wounded, and then admitted to hospital,” he said.
“Two civilians who were near the site of the incident were also wounded,” he added.
The source noted that the attacking group was able to escape, and police forces were unable to arrest any of the assassins.
