Iraqi government responding to demonstrators' demands, Media Advisor
1/18/2013 10:56 AM

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Media Advisor to Premier Nouri al-Maliki stated today that the "political tension in Iraq is exaggerated, because the government is dealing with the demands of the demonstrators and implementing them, including the releases of the detainees, de-Baathification, amnesty and terrorism laws, according to Saudi Al-Sharq al-Awsat daily.

Advisor Ali al-Mussawi, during his participation in Arab Information Ministers Meeting in Cairo, said yesterday that "each demand could be solved separately, so the amnesty law is the responsibility of the parliament and the government will implement it, otherwise a problem will be created".

"Premier Maliki has no right to change terrorism law, but can refer it to the parliament, as well as the Questioning and Justice Law", he elaborated.

Concerning the demonstrations, he added that Premier Maliki promised to solve some of them, but the political questions should be referred to the constitution.

He confessed that Iraq is under pressures which led to accusing him of having pro-Iranian policy regarding Syria.
