BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Osama al-Nujaifi, discussed on Thursday at his office in Baghdad with a member of the US Foreign Relations Council Burt Mickrk issues lie within the strategic partnership between the two countries and the latest developments in the country.
"Talks dwelt with issues of common interests and which lie within the strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries," said a statement from al-Nujaifi's office received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
"The two officials discussed also the latest political developments in the country, mainly the crisis between Baghdad and Arbil," it added.
Tensions between Baghdad and Arbil have been running high since Baghdad established a military command, named Dijla (Tigris) Operations Command, to cover the disputed areas in the provinces of Kirkuk, Diala and Salah al-Din.
