MISSAN/ Aswat al-Iraq: Missan Police Command announced today seizing 27 antiquities ready for smuggling abroad.

Commander Staff General Ali al-Hashimi told Aswat al-Iraq that the seizing operation was conducted 45 km south of Imara city, upon intelligence information.

The smuggler fled the crime scene, leaving the antiquities' box behind.

Missan province, 390 km south of the capital, Baghdad, is known for its archeological and historical sites that dated back to early history.

Missan was a kingdom in southern part of Iraq where 35 monarchs ruled it during its life time.

The greatest antiquities plunder took place after 2003 US war against Iraq which resulted in the disappearance of hundreds thousands priceless pieces.
