BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraq’s Integrity Commission has detained a doctor in a hospital in southern Iraq’s Amara city, the center of Missan Province, accused of taking bribes from his patients, a Commission’s statement reported on Thursday.

“The Integrity Commission and Missan’s Investigations Office has detained a doctor, specialized in kidney diseases in Amara’s Teaching Hospital, charged with taking bribes at his clinic, for passing operations in the government hospital,” the statement stressed.

It said “the doctor, who forces his patients to pay certain amounts of money for his approval to carry out the operations in the said hospital, was detained while pressing a child’s family to pay a bribe to carry out his operation.”

Amara, the center of Missan Province, is 390 km to the south of Baghdad.
