AD Melkert says political blocs in Kirkuk agree to hold elections soon

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: The UN Special Representative in Iraq, Ad Melkert, said on Wednesday that the political parties in Kirkuk agree to hold the provincial council elections soon, denying plans to deploy peacekeeping forces in the disputed areas after the U.S.
withdrawal by the end of the year.

The UN official expressed during a press conference in Kirkuk, attended by Aswat al-Iraq news agency optimistic over achieving a big progress in solving the Kirkuk cause.

He had described the atmospheres to settle the issue of Kirkuk as "positive.”
