7/2/2011 6:06 PM

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:  A member of the Higher Committee of the Arab Project Trend in Kirkuk stressed that the Trend's entities rejected the threats of Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi regarding the formation of a "Sunni" region.

Ahmed Hameed Al-Obaidi told Aswat al-Iraq that 12 Arab entities announced, in a meeting held today, their rejection of political blocs for the formation of "Sunni" region, pointing out that "Iraq, from Zakho to Fao, is for Iraqis, and the establishment of sectarian and racist regions is completely rejected."

Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi, who is a Sunni from the province of Ninewa and brother of its governor, had warned in TV interview with Al-Hurra TV Channel during his visit to  the U.S.
that the "Sunnis might think of separation or establishing a region of their own if the reasons leading to such feeling are not addressed," because "they feel greatly depressed for being treated as secondd degree citizens."

According to Obaidi, the meeting also discussed  the mechanism of elections in Kirkuk and division of power according to Article 23 of the constitution.

Kirkuk city lies 280 km northeast of the capital, Baghdad.
