KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq: A total of 82 wanted men, including a cell was aiming to target Shiite visitors to Karbala, were arrested on Friday, the Al-Furat al-Awsat Command said.

 

 

"Security forces arrested 82 wanted or suspected gunmen, including several terrorists, in parts in north of Karbala and Babel, as part of precautionary measure to protects visitors of Ashura," General Othman al-Ghanemi, chief of the al-Furat al-Awsat Command, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

 

 

"The forces seized amounts of bombs, explosives and car bombs with the detainees," he added.

 

 

Karbala lies 108 km southwest of Baghdad.
