Developed arms smuggling group arrested in Thi Qar
THI QAR/ Aswat al-Iraq: Police sources said here today that a group specialized in smuggling developed arms outside Iraq was captured.
General Hussein Abed Ali told Aswat al-Iraq that the Iraqi forces arrested four persons, within a network, who were under surveillance since five months.
He added that different weapons were seized including mortars, rifles, and other developed weapons against tanks, "which were not seen before in Iraq".
"The gang did not confess from where they got the weapons or where intended to smuggle", he elaborated.
Thi Qar police department organized a show for the seized arms, which the US army accused Iran in 2009 of smuggling them to Iraqi fighters.Nassiriya, center of the province, lies 365 km south of the capital, Baghdad.
