Army withdraws, replaced by federal police in Fallujah
1/26/2013 5:26 PM

ANBAR/ Aswat al-Iraq: Anbar Provincial Council Chairman announced here today that the army began to withdraw from Fallujah and adjacent military headquarters to be replaced by federal police.

Jassim al-Halbousi told Aswat al-Iraq that the army will be completely withdrawn from the city.

He added that the council will put the killers of the demonstrators to account according to the Iraqi law in Anbar province exclusively.

Halbousi pointed out that the tribal atmosphere raises "concern" due to army practices against demonstrators, describing such acts as "unethical".

Since 22 December 2012, Anbar province witnessed massive demonstrations and sit-in, in addition to Ninewa, Salahal-Din, Diala, Kirkuk and Baghdad demanding the release of innocent detainees and prisoners, while others called for toppling Maliki's government.

Ramadi, center of the province, lies 110 km west of the capital, Baghdad.
